is a situation in which you feel comfortable and in which your ability and determination are not being tested. When you’re in the comfort zone, you’re subconsciously looking for ways to stay in it. Comfort does not equal success. That’s because comfort can easily lead to complacency, and complacency most definitely does NOT lead to greater levels of success. A little while ago, I decided to leave behind what was familiar to explore the unfamiliar; I left my job after 15 years. The pros of my formally held position were: 1) great benefits, 2) great pay and 3) an awesome retirement package, the main con: 1) the position offered ZERO ability to stimulate and challenge my mind.
Also, I learned long ago that (job security) is an illusion. You may think you will always have that job or that you’re irreplaceable in your current position. More than likely both those thoughts are false. In hindsight, I should have left my job long before I did, but, … I stayed because I was comfortable, everything was familiar and stable to me. Finally, one day I mustered the strength to step out on faith and resign my position. It’s one of the best decisions I’ve made.
When an opportunity presents itself, you shouldn’t hesitate to pull the trigger, instead you should take advantage of the opportunity and use it to further your skill set. You know the opportunities that will interest you and compliment the skills you already have. Grow and learn by taking on new opportunities that are outside your comfort zone. Other people will take notice of the work you’re doing.
Regardless of how meaningless, pointless, dull and useless a project may seem, think about the higher purpose that it may serve. Determine to bring your best talents and most dedicated attitude to it. Our attitude is important because what you think changes how you feel and what you do. Develop the habit of honoring your work.
MAKE A POSITIVE IMPACT
Everything you do causes a response in someone. The look that you give off, how you answer and talk on the phone, and your smile all say something about you. Everything you do has an impact.
IMAGINE ALL OPPORTUNITIES
Opportunity is always present. Seek out trends and ideas that match your interests and skill set. Take those ideas and put your own twist on them. You don’t have to reinvent the wheel, just add a spoke. See things and think about how you might be able to improve on them. Look at the opportunities that will help and benefit other people, and you will find support from others.
By stepping out of my comfort zone, I was able to cease on a great opportunity!
Today, I find myself blessed beyond measure to have landed my “DREAM JOB”. I’m so EXCITED to not only show up for my job, but to perform my job to the absolute best of my abilities EVERYDAY. Above all, I’m happy to be a part of something SPECIAL!
