Raising the Bar Episode 1

Vlog Transcript

What’s up, business people? This is Brian Evans with BT Web Group, where we believe that better marketing builds a better business. I’m right in between two big trucks right now. Driving in my car in between appointments. I wanted to record this quick short video for you because I was asked a question yesterday about business success, and not that I have it all figured out by any means whatsoever, but I’ve done okay over the years. One of the questions that was asked of me was, what is the one thing that has made you most successful, and what is the one thing that you see most business owners doing incorrectly, the mistake that they make perhaps more than others? And it was a difficult question to answer. It took some time for me to really think about it, but after thinking about it a little bit, here’s what I came up with. And this is for me, this is my perspective at this time in my life right now. If you ask me next year, my answers could be completely different. You this is what my answer was.

The thing that has made me probably most successful is first and foremost understanding that there is more than one thing that creates success. So there is not just one thing. It’s very important to understand it’s a collection of things. But really I would say if I had to put it into one thing, it’s taking action. You have to take action as an entrepreneur, as a business owner, you have to act. And oftentimes you have to act quickly. If you delay, then you can get what’s called paralysis of analysis, and you just overthink things. Too much. So I’m a big believer, and I have trained myself in some form or fashion to just take action. Follow your instincts and take action, and a lot of times, most of the time, the actions that I’ve taken in business and entrepreneurship has been the correct action. Not always, but many times, most of the time, it has.

If it was not the correct action, I will say that it led to the next step in the progression of growth as a business. So that’s what I would say is you’ve got to take action. On the flip side, the thing that has, that I believe that probably is one of the biggest mistakes that entrepreneurs make is they’re disorganized. They’re disorganized and they underestimate the level of effort that is required in order to be successful as a business owner. So I guess that’s two faults. And there’s definitely more to it than that. But as a business owner, you have to be extremely organized. You have to. If you’re disorganized, then you’re going to struggle because there are so many moving parts to a business. There’s so many moving parts to a marketing campaign, there’s so many moving parts to delivering your product and service. You have to be able to get the phone to ring, answer the phone, schedule appointments, keep paperwork organized, do marketing, follow up on analytics.

You have to understand financials, you have to deal with legal issues, taxes, there is so much that goes into being a business owner, being an entrepreneur, that if you are a disorganized person, you will struggle greatly. So you have to be organized. Now that being said, I am definitely not the most organized person in the world, however I understand the value of being organized and the importance of being organized, so if you are not the most organized person in the world, this doesn’t mean you can’t be successful. What that tells me is, find somebody and bring somebody in on your team that can help you be organized, that can help you set appointments, follow up on appointments, make phone calls, follow up with emails. Help you do the things that you’re not as good at, they can pick up the slack.

Check this out real quick. We’ve got these cars that are like all detailed out. Looks like a Volkswagen of some kind. And I think they’re doing some secret, covert mission thing. It’s kind of cool. One, two, three, four, there’s a bunch of them. Anyway, that was cool.

Listen, I don’t have all the answers, but I wanted to take a quick second in between appointments to record this short video to help give you some momentum, moving forward in your business and can grow in your business. You know, it’s not supposed to be easy. It’s supposed to be hard, but when you get to the other end, when you overcome challenges and obstacles, and you create growth and you start to build upon each success, no matter how small that success may be, that is the mark that you’re going in the right direction. So never give up. Keep going, keep pushing hard, keep working on your business. Keep staying organized. Keep taking action, keep looking for new advice, and you’ll be successful. Your business will grow. It’s just a matter of time. I promise you that.
