Here are 3 smart ways you can raise awareness about your nonprofit in the digital world.
#1 – Leverage the Power of Video
Video marketing has become one of the best ways to get the message out for anyone wishing to get seen online. Not only do videos perform better than just a standard text post (Social video generates 12 times more shares than text and images combined!), but they also give you the opportunity to really connect with your audience at an emotional level. With video, you can share the stories and impact that your nonprofit brings to your community in a much deeper way. When you can evoke emotions, you are much more likely to drive people towards whatever action you want them to take such as volunteering or making a donation.
#2 – Share through Email Marketing
Email marketing is one of the most effective ways to reach your audience. As a nonprofit, you likely have a database of donors, volunteers and other supporters and you should be connecting with them via email often. No, you don’t need to send them a message every day but you want to be sure to stay top of mind and you can’t do that if you’re only messaging them once or twice a year.
When it comes to email marketing about your nonprofit, don’t just use this medium to ask for money. Events are great opportunities for raising awareness and with new technologies, you can now bring those events to an online audience as well! Live-streaming has become one of the most popular mediums for sharing lately. Remember when April the Giraffe was pregnant? People all over the world tuned in to the live-stream for updates on when her little one might enter the world. In fact, the live-stream of April’s adventure generated more than 10 million views on Facebook alone! Those views led to huge revenue being made with giraffe-themed toys, sponsorships, and ultimately a ton of visits to the small park where April lived. In other words, tons of awareness that led to a lot of money. As a non-profit, you can leverage the power of live-stream with your events which will allow people to be involved even if they can’t be there in person.
No matter which medium you choose, the important part is to have a plan and then execute that plan. As a nonprofit, you have to be smart about your money and other resources (e.g. time) so be sure to choose activities online that will give you the most bang for your buck. Starting with any of these three options is a smart choice. Before you know it, your nonprofit could be its own viral sensation!
